WOODBLOCK AND RELIEF PRINTS
In the past year, my woodblock prints have evolved from illustrative, dramatic figures to more abstracted forms, focusing on line, energy and movement. Working as an illustrator has influenced my prints, but now the focus has become not what I depict but the process in which I create this energy. Instead of illustrating a dramatic figure, the drama of the image is a result of the expressive way in which the block is treated and the various ways in which it can be printed. My goal is to engage the viewer within an emotional and unexpected set of circumstances born from the powerful language of mark-making the woodcut medium offers.
